I just bought this brand new dell computer 6 months ago and recently its been extremely slow. How do I check my cpu usage like the space I am using and how much I have available. Also, would having my outlook clogged with e-mail with a bunch of documents in them how bad does this hurt

1. Go to trendmicro.com & run a virus scan
2. Go to download.com & search for ad-aware. Download, install and run it-remove what it finds

Reboot, redo the above & let's go from there

chugg i got this from another poster It helped my computer

Since you have so much hard drive space, you can increase your virtual memory by increasing your paging file size for your hard drive.

For Windows 2000:
Right Click on My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced Tab -> Click on Performance Options -> Click the bubble for Applications, Click the 'Change' button under Virtual Memory -> then select your main hard drive (usually C: unless partitioned) and change the Initial Size (I put mine to 1000) and Maximum size (I use 1400) -> click on Set then click on 'OK'

For Windows XP, it's pretty much the same process but I am at work right now and can't go through the steps but it is very similar. I can check when I get home and post if needed but this will help out tremendously with Virtual Memory issues.

hope this helps!

also
go to ewido.com they have a free download that is excellent for removing spyware and adware..

good luck

My 2 bob, a multi pronged approach is needed.

ewido is good but takes up system resources, so use and uninstall after each use (once a week or whatever - regularly).

Also try spybot - search and destroy (free)
Ad-aware SE (free)
Kaspersky anti-virus (free months trial) - probably worth purchasing as Norton is complete crap. Get rid of Norton if you have it. Kaspersky very good, i use it. At least use the free month trial. You'll be surprised what it finds.

Spyware doctor if you're really dedicated. Costs, but again is very good. Similar situation to ewido in that it uses a lot of system resources, so install-use-uninstall.

Generally speaking, uninstall all superfluos programs from your system. Things you don't need or use. Ideally you want to run your sytem as mean and lean as you can, from a performance perspective. Should you be need it i'd recommend using "hijack this", but we're getting into details here and you'll probably find that if you use/run the above mentioned tools you'll fix the problems.

Best of luck.

PS. Windows Defender from Microsoft website (free) also worth having.

A combination of all the above should keep you out of trouble.

First thing you want to do is to find out what process is running that cause your pc is running and slow....once you determine what causes it....you can decide to remov it....

1) Hit <Control> <Alt> <Delete>....all at same time...
2) Seletc Task Manager
3) Look at the bottom where it says "CPU Usage"...your percent should change from 1% to 20%....the most....if it says 75% or 80%...you're serious fuqed....
4) You can also hightlight the process, right click and terminate the process to stop the process
5) Once you determine what processes are running and bog down your pc....you can get software to scan and remove your spams and all the junks that you dont need...my favorites are "Spy Sweeper" and "Ad Aware"

Get back with me and I'll help you to get your PC running fast again..

I use Spyware Doctor.... I allow it to run, warning me against proceeding into risky areas on the web...

By uninstalling, Are you saying that this is not a worthwhile function for Spyware Doctor to perform?... Instead of contamination prevention, you seem to advocate repetitive cycles of clean-up after contamination....:icon_conf
